Death of Mrs. Gillett
Passed Away Friday After Lingering Illness
Eighty-One Years of Age
Came to Estherville in 1869 Where She Has Since Resided – Mother of Mrs. F. E. Allen

Mrs. David Gillett, mother of Mrs. F. E. Allen, passed away at the Allen home on east Lincoln street Friday [September 13, 1912] afternoon after an illness covering a period of weeks. Deceased was born at Liberty, Pa., November 12, 1831. She was married to David Gillett in 1846 and soon after moved to Wisconsin. They came to Estherville in 1869 where they spent the balance of their life, Mr. Gillett having passed away several years ago. She united with the Baptist church at Trempleau, Wis., in 1856 and when she came to Estherville transferred her membership to the Baptist church here. She was a true Christian woman and loved by all who knew her. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Gillett, the eldest a boy who died in childhood. The daughters are Mrs. Orpha Symington, residing at Spencer, and Mrs. F. E. Allen in this city.

Funeral services were held at the Allen home at three o’clock Saturday afternoon conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. D. Vannoy, assisted by Rev. Mark Paulsen, pastor of the Episcopal church and the remains interred in the Allen lot in Oak Hill Cemetery. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, September 18, 1912)
