Mrs. Groves Dies: Rite To Be Tuesday

Mrs. M.J. (Marietta) Groves, prominent and longtime Estherville resident, died late Saturday at Holy Family Hospital. She had been in poor health for several months.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville, the Rev. James K. Lyon officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home until the time of services.

Mrs. Groves was born Oct. 6, 1869, at Whitewater, Wis. She attended Normal School and was a teacher in the public schools at Indianola and Columbus Junction. On July 2, 1891, she was married to Mack J. Groves. the couple moved to Estherville in 1897, where lived until her death.

Mrs. Groves was a longtime member of the first Presbyterian Church in Estherville. She was s member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was past Worthy matron of the local chapter of Eastern Star. Mrs. Groves was also a member of the women’s Club and was active in many civic affairs.

Mrs. Groves participated in the organization of the Farmers State Mutual Hail Association. She was secretary of the company from 1893 until 1953 and has been president of the company since that time.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Edith B. Neff of Long beach, Calif., and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1953 and by an infant daughter in 1905.

Pallbearers will be Jno. E. Greig, Harry Peterson, Francis Shadle, Clyde Sanborn, Leo Fitzgibbons and Francis Fitzgibbons.
