Mrs. John Blom of Gruver Dies at Age of 86
Funeral Services to Be Held Wednesday

Mrs. John Blom, 86, of Gruver died Saturday night at 6 o’clock after having been bedfast since last fall when she suffered a broken hip. Immediate cause of death was pneumonia.

Mrs. Blom had been an Emmet county resident for 55 years and moved to Gruver in1922.

Born on Nov. 17, 1860, in Germany, Mrs. Blom, whose maiden name was Tillie Jurgens, was baptized in the Lutheran church in Germany. At the age of 17 she came to America to make her home in Ackley, Iowa.

On May 27, 1883, she became the bride of John Blom. The newly married couple lived for a short time at Ackley and later moved to a farm at Parkersburg, Iowa, where they resided until moving to a farm in Emmet county 55 year ago.

Mrs. Blom is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Mary Fank of Dolliver and six sons, Jerry of Holloway, Minn., Ole of Triumph, Minn., Ben of Monterey, Minn., Joe of Blue Earth, Minn., Christ of Ceylon and Tom of Estherville.

Also surviving are a brother, Swen Jurgens of Grundy county, other relatives in Germany, 45 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren. One child which died in infancy preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 in the Blom home at Gruver and at 2 p.m. in the Gruver Presbyterian church, Rev. Albert Husted officiating. Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 14, 1947)
