Ex-Resident of City Dies At Fort Dodge
Mrs. W. E. Alton of Fort Dodge, former Estherville resident, died yesterday afternoon at the Lutheran hospital in Fort Dodge after a week’s illness, of a heart ailment and circulatory disturbance. She had only recently returned home from the hospital after a first attack.Mrs. Alton was the former Jennie Salisbury and lived here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Salisbury until her marriage in 1898 to the late Dr. W. E. Alton, a former surgeon and physician here.
Dr. Alton practiced his profession here for a short time after their marriage and then moved to Fort Dodge where he continued his practice until his retirement.
Mrs. Alton attended the Estherville public schools and was active here in church work. She was a faithful member of the First Methodist church in Fort Dodge. The D.A.R. and D.U.V. both had her active support. Her father was a civil war veteran.
Mrs. Alton, 78, was preceded in death by, besides her husband and parents, a sister and two brothers, Dr. R. W. Salisbury and Ve Salisbury, three nephews and one niece. Dr. R.W. Salisbury was for many years a practicing physician here.
Funeral services are tentatively set for Monday at 2:30 or 3 p.m. at Ft. Dodge with graveside services here at the Oakhill cemetery where burial will be in the family lot.
Mrs. R. S. Clark of Estherville, a friend of Mrs. Alton for many years, visited her in Fort Dodge yesterday and was there at the time of her death. Further information concerning the exact time of the burial services will be received tomorrow by Mrs. Clark. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 27, 1954)
