Mrs. Martin Izer passed away at the Coleman Hospital at 6:10 yesterday morning after an illness of several months. She became seriously ill during the middle of November and on January 14th was taken to the hospital and an operation was performed on her foot. A paralytic stroke followed the operation and from then on she gradually declined in health. Ida May Crumb was born December 8, 1863, at Edgerton, Wis. When she was but a year old she came here with her parents who homesteaded on what is now known as the Chas. Shultz farm north of this city. On November 25, 1891, she was united in marriage with Martin Izer and they have made their home in this city ever since. After they retired from their farm Mrs. Izer’s parents have made their home with them and received every care and attention it was possible for a loving daughter to show them. Mr. Crumb passed away on October 28, 1906, and his wife died on April 15, 1924. In May, 1909, Mrs. Izer united with the Methodist Episcopal church and has been a constant and faithful worker in the church and its various organizations ever since. The passing of Mrs. Izer means the loss of one of Estherville’s kindest and most friendly women. Always willing to give up her own joys and pleasures for the benefit of someone else, she won a place in the hearts of all who knew her. During her illness she accepted her sufferings patiently and with humility, never complaining of her lot in this world. She will be greatly missed by her large number of friends in this community. Besides her husband, one sister, Mrs. Mary E. Hudson, seven nieces, Mrs. Chas. Dayton and Mrs. Jessie Seevers, of this city, Mrs. H. C. Darland, of Sioux City, Mrs. N. H. Nelson, of Des Moines, Miss Lela Hudson, of Ottumwa, and three nephews, H. F. Hudson, of Tracy, Minn., H. A. Hudson, of Hillsdale, Mich., and H. L. Hudson of Des Moines mourn her passing away. Funeral service will be held from the Izer home on north Eighth street, Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. R. T. Chipperfield officiating. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the sorrowing husband and relatives in their bereavement. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, February 4, 1925)
