W. A. Rankin Passed Away on Thursday
Had Been Seriously Ill for Past Several Months
Long Time Resident Here
Eight Children Are Left to Mourn His Passing Away-Funeral Was Held Saturday

Death again entered this community last Thursday and this time claimed for its victim W. A. Rankin, a resident of Estherville for many years. Mr. Rankin has been in poor health for some time and since last May he had been confined to his bed practically all the time. He has undergone much suffering and pain during his illness and death comes as a welcome relief from his misery. He has had the best care possible from the hands of devoted children and at all times he was a patient sufferer and never complained of his lot in life. W. A. Rankin was born in Springfield, Ohio, April 18, 1856. His early life was spent at that place and later he moved with his parents to Muscatine, Iowa, where he resided for several years. On November 3, 1885, he was united in marriage with Marietta Douglas at West Branch, Iowa. Shortly after their marriage they came to Estherville where they resided ever since. Mrs. Rankin passed away October 5, 1920. During his life here Mr. Rankin was active in the affairs of the community and always took a deep interest in the affairs of the city. Ill health never permitted him to enter into any strenuous activities but he was willing to do his share. He was a man of his word and when he made a promise acted in accordance with it. He had a large number of friends here who deeply regret to hear of his passing away. Eight children are left to mourn the loss of a devoted father. They are: Charles, Pipestone, Minn., Glenn, North Dakota, Fred, Sioux City, C. O. Rankin, Clarion, Mrs. Harry Heffelfinger, Marshalltown, Iowa, Ralph, Blanche and Louise Rankin, of Estherville. Besides his wife he is preceded in death by two children. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Mahlum & Anderson undertaking parlors. Rev. W. F. Huxford of the Baptist church officiated. Interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery. The sympathy of many friends is extended to the sorrowing relatives in their hours of grief.
