Ray Ruckman, 17, Died From Arm Infection

Raymond Ruckman, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ruckman, died Friday [September 6, 1929] from blood poisoning caused by an infection in his arm from which he had suffered for two weeks. The infection was not considered serious and he was active until a week before his death when he was taken to a local hospital. He was a freshman in high school.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the home on north 4th street and at the Estherville Lutheran church with the Rev. L. A. Mathre officiating. His cousin, the Rev. Albert Bringle, of Dell Rapids, also spoke at the church. Interment was made in the family lot in Oak Hill cemetery.

Raymond Thomas Ruckman was born April 26, 1912, in Emmet county and on Nov. 11 of the same years he was baptized in the Union State Line Lutheran church. After the death of is mother in 1917 he spent the greater part of his life with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. George Kruse at Minot, N.D. Two years ago he returned to Estherville to make his home with his parents.

He received his catshetical instruction from the Rev. T. F. Gulixon at Minot and was confirmed in the First Lutheran church there. After coming to Estherville he was received in to the membership of the Estherville Lutheran church.

He is survived by his father, Thomas Ruckman, two sisters, Mrs. Dave George and Laurane, a brother, Wade T. Ruckman, of Minot, N.D., a step mother, and two half sisters, Vivian and Mary Ellen. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, September 12, 1929)
