Found Dead in Bed by Wife
John Osmundsen, 48, was found dead in his bed Thursday noon by his wife, who returned to his room upstairs after going down to the kitchen to get him a drink of water. Mr. Osmundson underwent an operation a year ago and has been in poor health since that time. He has been able to be up and around, however, until just a few days before his death.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church with the Rev. W. A. WinterStein officiating. A double quartet, consisting of Wayne Huntsinger, Donald Hall, John Hansen, Claire Coon, Belva Ross, Otho Ragsdale, Richard Lee and Richard Goss sang two selections. Pallbearers were John Lilley, Max Kent, George Lucas, Dr. A. L. Hotelling, Con Alt and Vance Noe. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery with the Knights of Pythias officiating.
John Wesley Osmundsen was born in Dane county, Wisconsin, on Feb. 11, 1882, and was the youngest son of John and Caroline Osmundsen. When he was one year old he came to Iowa with his father’s family and they made their home in Forest City. In 1884 the family came to this community, locating on a farm eight miles north of this city. In 1900 they moved to Estherville and he has made his home here ever since. On June 8, 1912, he married Miss Hattie Vestrum and to this union four children were born.
He is survived by his wife, his mother, Mrs. Caroline Osmundsen, who is 89 years old; three sons, Wayne, John, Jr., and Dean; one daughter, Carolyn; two brothers, Oren of Minneapolis, and William of St. Mary’s, Idaho, and one sister, Mrs. Cora Hunt, of Devils Lake, N.D.
Out-of-town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George Stockdale of Goldfield, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Hendricksen, of Slayton, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hendricksen, of Fairmont, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hendricksen of Sioux Falls, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Hendricksen of St. Paul, Mrs. John Wilson of St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Weir of Emmetsburg and Mrs. Roy Weir of Boone.
