John Lytle Is Called
Resided in Emmet County For Over 40 Years; Funeral Held Sunday

Many friends were grieved to learn of the sudden death of John Lytle, one of Estherville’s early settlers, which came early Friday night.

Mr. Lytle had been bed fast for several years and his condition took a turn for the worse a short time before his death.

Services were held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the home and at 2:30 at the Baptist church. Rev. J. A. Riggs officiated. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery.

Pallbearers were Steve Sullivan, William Swift, John Hipple, Harold Stearns, H. B. Danielson and Fred Lyman.

John V. Lytle was born Sept. 7, 1858, in Marshall county, Ill., and died March 24, 1939 at the age of 85 years, 6 months, and 17 days, being the last of thirteen children.

He came to Emmet county over 40 years ago and for the last 25 years has made his home with his nephew, F. C. Lytle. He leaves another nephew George McAcee of Lorens [Laurens], Iowa, and three nieces, Mrs. Fred Young, Davenport, Ia.; Mrs. B. B. Flindt, Kimberly, Minn., and Mrs. Otto Hough of Onowa, Iowa, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Florence Potter of Estherville. John never married. John V. Lytle, 85, Passed Away Fri.

John V. Lytle, 85, died Friday, March 24 at the home of his nephew, Floyd C. Lytle, after a prolonged illness which had kept him bedfast for the past five years.

Mr. Lytle, who was never married, was born in Marshall county, Ill., son of Samuel and Elizabeth Lytle. He has lived in this vicinity for the past 40 years, and with his nephew for the past 25 years.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Mahlum and Anderson chapel, and at 2:30 in the Baptist church, the Rev. J. Albert Riggs officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 30, 1939)
