H. M. Ireland, 85, Dies After Long Illness
H. M. Ireland, 85, died Sunday morning after an illness of nine months. He had been living with his daughter, Mrs. Charles Bixby, and family since he became ill.
Mr. Ireland was born in Delhi, la., and came to Estherville 32 years ago. Before moving here he had been engaged in construction work. Soon after his arrival here, he became janitor of the Jackson schoolhouse, a position he held for 23 years.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Bixby, a granddaughter, Shirley Nadine Bixby, a grandson, Lt. Col. Orin Bixby of Spokane, Wash., and a great granddaughter, Genine Bixby.
Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Sternborg funeral home and at 2:30 at the Methodist church. Burial was in the East Side cemetery. The Rev. C. J. Semans was in charge of the services.
