Funeral Services for Thor Hatland Will Be Held Today

Thor Hatland was, born May 15th 1867, in Norway the eldest child of Joe and Christine Hatland.

He came to America with his parents In 1865. They first lived in Illinois and then moved to Southern Story County, Iowa. Here Mr. Hatland grew to manhood and was confirmed at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church near Huxley. In 1887 he came to Emmet County and the following year he was married to Elizabeth Lekness. Five children were born to them, daughter, Anna, died in infancy, a son, Austin, died at the age of 17, and a daughter, Bertha, died at the age of 21.

Mr. Hatland died Monday morning at his farm home after a brief illness. The surviving children are the sons, Joseph and Earl Hatland both of Estherville, who together with their mother, are mourning his departure. There are five sisters and three brothers living, namely Mrs. Henry Erickson of Sheldahl; Mrs. Chris Peterson, of Des Moines; Mrs. Clarence Kimble of Madrid; Mrs. Charley Judge of California; and Mrs. Charley Pickleman of California; John Hatland of Slater; Erick Hatland of Des Moines and Ben Hatland of Estherville.

The funeral was held Wednesday at one o'clock from the farm home where he passed away Monday morning, December 19th, at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 4 days, and at the Estherville Lutheran Church 2 o'clock, Rev. L. A. Mathre officiating.
