Malarial Fever Cause
Will be Buried in Estherville ThursdayJames S. Fletcher, for many years a well known citizen of Estherville, died last Sunday on his ranch near Tulsa, Indian Territory. He was ill but a short time with malarial fever and the end came very suddenly. Mr. Fletcher went to the southwest in April and has been operating a ranch near Tulsa. He was in apparent good health when he left Estherville and his sudden death comes as a shock to his family and friends.

In 1881 he was married at Clear Lake to Miss Eliza Lawrence and the following years the couple came to Estherville which has since been their home, the decedent engaging in the practice of law and the real estate business.
He leaves one daughter, Emily, the wife of E. F. Winslow of Des Moines, and a son by a former marriage – John Fletcher of Keystone, Oklahoma. He is also survived by two brothers, Henry of Minneapolis and Lucius of Janesville, Wisconsin.
The remains arrived in Estherville this morning, accompanied by the decedent’s son-in-law, E. F. Winslow. The funeral services will be held at the residence, 303 South Seventh street, at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon, being in charge of Rev. Cole of the Methodist Episcopal church. Jas. S. Fletcher Dead
A telegram was received here Sunday afternoon announcing the sudden death of Jas. S. Fletcher at Tulsa, Indian Territory. The news came as a great surprise as the last heard from him he was enjoying the best of health although later information was to the contrary. Mr. Fletcher removed from Estherville last spring and since then has devoted his time to farming and working the real estate business on a small scale. Previous to removing to the Indian territory he had lived in Estherville for about twenty-five years, practicing law and dealing more or less in real estate and loans. He was a very conspicuous figure in a political and business way and had many admirable traits of character. He, of course, had enemies, nevertheless he had hosts of friends here who will deplore his death. The remains will reach here this evening accompanied by his son, John R. and son-in-law, Mr. Winslow of Des Moines. The funeral will be held from the Fletcher home tomorrow afternoon.
He was 65 years of age and leaves a wife and two children, a son John R. of Tulsa, Indian Territory and a daughter, Mrs. Emily Winslow of Des Moines. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, October 25, 1905)
