Mrs. Schenck Dead
Pioneer of This County Died After Prolonged Illness – Respected by All
Mrs. J. D. Schenck passed away at her home on north Seventh street Saturday noon, after a long illness. She had lived in Emmet county for over sixteen years and had moved to this city with her husband about three years ago from the farm near Huntington. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon and burial made in Oak Hill cemetery. Following is the obituary prepared by her pastor:

Sarah Sherman Schenck was born in Frankville, Iowa, on the 28th day of September, 1859; died in Estherville, Iowa, March 9th, 1918, being 58 years, 3 months and 2 days of age. She was married to Judson D. Schenck in Frankville, Iowa, on the 15th day of September, 1880. There were born to this happy union five children, four sons, James D., Leonard B., Clarence M., and Clayton J., and one daughter, Flo Isabel Bomberger. She was the grandmother of eleven children. These loved ones with two sisters, four brothers, a devoted husband and many loving friends remain to mourn their sad loss.

About sixteen years ago she with her husband and family came to Emmet county and located near Huntington where they resided until about three years ago when she with her husband came to Estherville to make their home. She was a kind neighbor, a faithful friend, a loving mother, a devoted companion and an earnest Christian. She was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church in Frankville, Iowa, in the winter of 1886, thirty-two years ago, and to the last day of her life loved the church and was loyal to her Master.

For about ten years she has been a great sufferer, during all of which time she was patient and long suffering and never lost her confidence in God. The last eight weeks of her life she was confined to her bed but never did she murmur or complain. [Remainder not legible.] (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, March 13, 1918)
