Phoebe Ann Halstead was born at Warsaw, Indiana, October 28, 1857, and died at Estherville, Iowa, June 23, 1916. She was married to Joseph C. Pannell, August 28, 1870, at Blue Earth, Minn. Three children born, two of whom survive, and live in this city, J. W. Pannell and Mrs. Thos. Tracy. Mr. and Mrs. Pannell moved from Minnesota to Adair county, Iowa, in 1875, and came to this locality in 1894, where they farmed until six years ago last March when they purchased and took possession of a home in Estherville in which to spend their declining years. Death invaded the home and called the husband to his reward, Jan. 29, 1915.

Mrs. Pannell was an affectionate mother and a friend to all her acquaintances, a kindly home-loving woman who performed her duties well and leaves a sacred memory. She was a member of the Presbyterian church. Funeral was held from her house at six o’clock, Monday afternoon, conducted by her pastor, Rev. R. C. Mitchell, and the body was laid to rest by the side of the husband, in the East Side cemetery.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were, Mrs. Geo. Young and Leonard Halstead, of Avery, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. John Salsbury, of Rodman, Iowa; L. H. Halstead and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Halstead, of Emmetsburg. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 28, 1916)
