The following obituary taken from the Berlin, Wisconsin Journal will be of interest to many people in this vicinity who remember the deceased passed one winter here visiting his son, Henry V. Strong south of Estherville

William D. Strong died at his home, 1112 Broadway, at 10 o’clock this morning. He had been in feeble health for a number of years and for several months has been confined to his bed.

W. D. Strong was one of the oldest settlers of Berlin. His brother Nathan H. was the first settler and the only one that preceded him. He was born in Vermont on Aug. 22th, 1808. In 1824 he removed with his family to Franklin county, N.Y., where he engaged in farming. In his twenty-first year he was married to Ennice (Eunice?) Bemis. Ten children were born to them, three of whom survive him. Henry V. of Iowa, Ann Eliza Bates of Missouri and Alice A. Loper, of Minn. Mr. Strong came to Wisconsin in 1837, first settling in Kenosah county and in 1844 removed to Ceresoo, Found du Lac county, and in the summer of 1847 settled on the site of the present city of Berlin. In the following winter his wife died. Mr. Strong was again married in 1849. One daughter was born to them. Eunice C. who has always resided with her father.

He was one of the founders of the Baptist church of this city and has been a deacon of this church since 1858. Mr. Strong has lived an honorable life and was entitled to and enjoyed the respect of all who knew him.

The funeral will be on Friday afternoon but the hour is not yet fixed. (The Northern Vindicator, Estherville, IA, August 17, 1893)
