Died – Leona, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Hubbard, aged 16 months, and 20 days, on October 5th, 1889.
Only those who “Sigh for the touch of a vanished hand And the sound of a voice that is still”can fully sympathize with the bereaved parents. Little Leone had just learned the innocent prattle of childhood, so endearing to parents. The circumstances of this case recall these beautiful lines:
“And then I think of one who in her youthful beauty died,
The fair meek blossom that grew up and faded by my side.
In the cold moist earth we laid her when the forest cast a leaf.
And we wept that one so lovely, should have had a life so brief.
Yet not unmeet it was that one like that young friend of ours.
So gentle and so beautiful, should perish with the flowers.

Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard desire to express their gratitude to kind friends for their sympathy and good offices during their late affliction. (Northern Vindicator, Estherville, IA, October 11, 1889)
