Mrs. Bigelow Dies Monday At Estherville
Was Ill for Well On to Six Years, Funeral Will Be Held at 2 o’clock Today
Mrs. A. E. Bigelow, who had been a resident of Emmet county for almost 34 years, passed away Monday, October 12. She had been ill for nearly six years. She made her home here for a time with her daughter, the late Mrs. John Allen, and was cared for here by her daughter, Miss Jessie Bigelow. After Mrs. Allen’s death, they continued to live in the Allen home up to a few months ago, when they returned to Estherville.

Jennie E. Butterick was born at Jay Essex county, N.Y., on October 28, 1854. On October 10, 1876 she was married to Anson E. Bigelow at Vinton. She spent her early married life on the Bigelow homestead at Au Sable Forks, N.Y., where four children were born. The family then pioneered to Emmet county in 1888, where she has lived since that time with the exception of four years she spent in California and a short time in Emmetsburg.

In her early girlhood she united with the Baptist church at Jay, N.Y. After moving to Emmet county she united with the Presbyterian church and she has always been a faithful member. She was an organizer of the first Woman League of the Hoprig church and always active in church and community work. She was a member of the Okomanpado chapter of the D.A.R.

She is survived by five daughters, Miss Jessie Bigelow, Mrs. Thomas Nivison, and Mrs. Bessie Irwin of Estherville. Mrs. Neva Howe of Spencer and Mrs. Vera Albro of Tacoma, Wash.; one son, Ira E. Bigelow of Colome, S.D.; two sisters, Mrs. Charles McMillen of Waverly and Mrs. Louis Haines of Klamath Falls, Ore.; one brother, Fred Butterick of Isabel, S.D., and fourteen grandchildren.
