Obituary – George Amdahl
George Amdahl was born March 7th, 1863 at Sevde near Satvanger, Norway. At the age of 14 he came with his parents to Roland, Iowa. Having been baptized as a child, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bergen Church, Roland, by Rev. C. B. Jacobson. In August, 1886 he was united in marriage to Anna Sandvik [Sandvig]. The ceremony was the first performed by the pioneer pastor, Rev. L. O. Wigdahl, in Palo Alto County. For about fourteen years they made their home in Marshalltown, Iowa, whereupon they settled in Palo Alto County. After renting a farm for five years, they purchased a farm 3 ˝ miles southwest of Wallingford where they continued to live until 1920, when they moved into a fine house they had built on South 3rd in Estherville. They have resided there since that time. Mr. Amdahl had not been well for some time, but had been up and about his duties around his home until last Saturday when he was compelled to go to bed. He grew continually worse and the end came Monday, Dec. 23rd at 3:15 p.m. Death was due, according to the attending physician to cancer.

Mr. Amdahl leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and the four children: Joseph C. of Graettinger; Arthur, of Estherville; Mrs. Charles Jackson of Estherville, and Emmet of Jackson, Minn. There are also 12 grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Eva (?) Amdahl of Dallas, Wis., Lars Amdahl of Roland, Iowa; Mrs. Ragnhild Petersen of Estherville; Mrs. Rasmus Anderson of Barren, Wis., and Knut Amdahl of Kerkhovea, Minn.

The funeral was held Friday, Dec. 27th, at 1:00 o’clock from the home, and 1:30 at the Estherville Lutheran Church, with Rev. L. A. Mathre in charge.

Miss Berna Hansen played the funeral march and a quartette composed of Jennie and Josephine Handeland, Lloyd Handeland and Everett Shaw sang three songs. The pall bearers were Albert Johnson, Albert Kressl, Harry Bauman, Irvin Nichols, J. E. Herbrandson, and Chas. Nourse.

Interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 1, 1936)

Funeral Services Friday Afternoon at Estherville Lutheran Church
George Amdahl, 70, passed away this afternoon at his home after an illness of several months suffering from cancer. Last rites will be held Friday at 1 o’clock at the home and at 1:30 at the Estherville Lutheran church with the Rev. L. A. Mathre officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Mr. Amdahl has been a resident of Estherville for many years, coming here from a farm southwest of Wallingford. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Charles Jackson, of Estherville, and three sons, Arthur of Estherville, Joe of Graettinger and Emmet of Jackson, Minn.
