MRS. S. D. BUNT DIED AT ARMSTRONG

A Pioneer Settler--In Emmet County Sixty Years--Well Known Elderly Lady

Mrs. S. D. Bunt, a well known resident of Emmet county for over fifty-eight years, succumbed to an illness lasting but a few days at an early hour Wednesday morning at the advanced age of seventy-nine years. Mrs. Bunt had been ill but a short time and it was thought she was improving but on Wednesday morning she passed away very suddenly.

Mary Stanley was born near Ontario, Canada, February 4, 1844, and at the age of seven years came to Allamakee county, Iowa. She was united in marriage with Stephen Bunt, February 6, 1864, at Prairie du Chein, Wis. Eight children were born to this union, one child dying at the age of five years, and seven surviving.

The children are as follows: James E. Bunt, R. E. Bunt, Daisy Bunt, Mrs. Cora Palmer of Armstrong, Iowa; Howard Bunt, Iowa Falls, Iowa; Mrs. James Kehoe, Spooner, Wis.; Mrs. H. Lytle, Gary, S. Dak. She is also survived by one brother, Adolph Stanley of Pine River, Minn. Her husband passed away on February 14, 1920.

Mrs. Bunt came with her husband to Emmet county in 1865 and settled on a farm northeast of Estherville, where they resided until 1877 when they moved to the town of Armstrong where they resided until death.

Mrs. Bunt was one of the early pioneers and underwent all the toil and vicissitures which were a part of the life of the early settler. She and her husband fought the battle of life with confidence and overcame obstacles and gained a comfortable home and happiness. Those who have moved into this community in later years have not the slightest idea of what the early pioneer went through to establish a home.
