Obituary of Nels Hanson

Nels Hanson, who died here last week at the home of his daughter Mrs. Fred Cheever, was born in Bommolo, Norway, on the 12th of June 1850, and thus reached an age of 77 years and 5 months. He immigrated to America in the spring of 1869 and came to Polk county, Iowa. In February 1877, he was united in marriage to Miss Christine Stanerson. To this union were born ten children of which one died in infancy. Those remaining to mourn the departure of their father are: Mrs. Anne Mussen of Woodlake, Cal., Mrs. Martha Cheever of Armstrong, Lewis Hanson of Brainard, Minn., Mrs; Jennie Slininger of Gary, Minn., Mrs. Hannah Benton of Tyler, Minn., Clarence and Sanford Hanson of Coleraine, Minn., Mrs. Hazel Slininger of Ada, Minn., and Mrs. Grace James of Minneapolis. Besides these there are 42 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

After having spent four years in Hamilton county, Mr. Hanson and family moved to Emmet county in 1887. Since that time they made their home in this county. Mrs. Hanson passed away on the 18th of August 1900. On March 3, Mr. Hanson was married to Mrs. Sarah Watland who also preceded him in death, having died on December 4, 1927. He was a member of the Lutheran church of Armstrong where the funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in charge of Rev. E. T. Lundy and assisted by Rev. A. K. Gaard of Cylinder. Burial was made at the Palestine cemetery northwest of Dolliver.
