L. J. Rohde Dead

Mr. L. J. Rohde, father of H. N. Rohde, of this city, died Sunday [26 Jan 1908] at his home on north Seventh street, of pneumonia, after an illness of one week. He was in his 84th year. Funeral services will be held from the residence at three o'clock today (Wednesday) and the body laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery beside his wife, who preceded him to the great beyond three years ago. He is survived by three daughters and five sons: Mrs. Henry Stephen of Garrison South Dakota, Mrs. Frederick Drasen of Doon, Miss Matilda Rohde of this city, D. Rohde of Chicago, Adolph and William Rohde of Edgerton, Minnesota, L. J. Rohde of Manila, Philippine Islands and H. N. Rohde of this city, all of whom are here to attend the funeral except L. J. Rohde of Manila.

A. (sic) Rohde was born at Holsteine, Germany, Sept. 24, 1824. In 1845 he was married to Miss Migratha Coch, and to them twelve children were born, eight of whom are now living. In 1870 Mr. and Mrs. Rohde came to America, locating at Davenport and have lived in Iowa ever since. Deceased was a sturdy and prosperous citizen, a hard worker, devoted husband and indulgent father.
