Mrs. Henry Johnson, of Ellsworth township, Emmet county, Iowa died at her home January 6, 1903. She passed away at three o'clock in the morning after an illness of over two years but the last month she grew worse rapidly.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Norway May 29th, 1848. Her parents left Norway when she was a child about five years and came to America, where they settled in Dane county, Wisconsin. When the civil war broke out, her father enlisted in the 15th Wisconsin regiment, which it is claimed saw the hardest service of any regiment in the union army, just a few men coming back out of the whole regiment. In 1866 her parents moved to Polk county, Iowa. In 1867 she was married to Henry Johnson on the 31st of March and their union was blessed with eleven children. Her husband and all the children were with her at her last moments; also seven sons-in-law and a nephew that she raised from the time he was about six months old till he was twenty-one years old. Erick Erickson and other relatives were at the death bed. She knew all the time for the last month that she was going to die and talked about nothing else, only how glad she was to move from this world and cross the river Jordan to rest safe in the arms of Jesus her Savior. Her husband and children are all mourning the loss of a good wife and a devoted mother. Her burial was in the Norwegian Cemetery.
