OBITUARY OF MRS. SERINA HANSON OF MAPLE HILL

Mrs. Serina Hanson of Maple Hill, Iowa was born in Norway October 18th 1861. Came to this country with her parents [Guttorm and Olene Guttormson] in 1864. Lived in Lansing, Iowa first and later came to Emmet county where Mrs. Hanson has spent the remainder of her life. She was united in holy wedlock at the age of 17 to Mr. [Johan] John A. Hanson, age 28, April 8, 1878 in Emmet county. This union was blessed with four children, two girls and two boys. Her husband passed to the Beyond thirty-one years ago, the 26th day of September, 1892. Mrs. Hansen remained a widow since that time.

She was taken sick about a year ago seeking doctors for her ailment but could find no help or relief. The doctors at Rochester, Minnesota, told her she had cancer of the stomach and that there would be no cure for her. Resigned to the condition, she prepared for leaving this world to enter on the Eternal Life. She gave herself over to her Saviour with all her sins and all her faults and He saved her for His love's sake. This she rejoiced over the last months of her life.

She was a kind, motherly woman, who had met with many hardships in life; first, her own husband died leaving her oldest son married with three children and his wife died. Mrs. Hanson again had to step in and be a mother the second time for her three little grandchildren. God spared her until now the children are able to take care of themselves, but when her work was over the Lord told her to come. She died Monday the 1st day of October 1923, at the age of 62 years.

Funeral services were held at her home and at the cemetery conducted by T. Hanson. The Ladies Chorus of Immanuel Church sang a few beautiful and appropriate songs. A host of friends, neighbors and relatives met to pay the last respect to Mrs. Serina Hanson.

Those to mourn the loss of a dear mother, grandmother and sister are Mrs. Lena Helvik, Darby, Mont.; Mrs. Joseph Bryan, Swan Lake Township; Hans D. Hanson and Jean S. Hanson, both of Maple Hill, Iowa and eight grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Mary Mason, Algona, Iowa; three brothers Gust O. Gilbertson and Ole G. Gilbertson both of Maple Hill, Iowa and Gilbert Gilbertson of Minneapolis, Minn.

May God bless and comfort the sorrowing and prepare us all for the Heavenly Home above.

[Serina Hanson is buried in Swan Lake cemetery.]
