Life-Time Resident Here Dies

Heart Attack Fatal to Chris Gronstal

Christopher Michael Gronstal, 67, Estherville painter and decorator, died at 5:35 p.m. yesterday [May 22, 1952] at Holy Family hospital of a heart attack. He had been feeling ill for the past few days but continued to work until taken to the hospital.

A life-time resident of Estherville, Mr. Gronstal was born Nov. 29, 1884, the oldest son of Knute and Ragnhild Gronstal. He graduated from grade school and high school here. He worked with his father as a painter and decorator and later formed a partnership with his brother Carl in the business which has existed for the past 25 years.

In 1935 he married Dorothy Latchem in Washington.

He was a member of the Estherville Lutheran church, of which he has been secretary for the past 28 years.

Surviving his death are his wife; four brothers, George J. of North Hollywood, Calif., Knute S. of Omaha, Joseph M. of Treynor, Laurence R. of Chicago and Carl C. of Estherville; a sister, Wilma M. of Council Bluffs; and a number of nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents and two brothers, Dewey of St. Joseph, Mo., in 1947 and Bernt of Council Bluffs in 1949.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the home of Carl Gronstal, 803 North Sixth street, and at 2:30 p.m. at the Estherville Lutheran church. Officiating will be the Rev. L. G. Hinderaker, assisted by the Rev.John DeLong. Burial will be in the Norwegian Lutheran cemetery.
