Warren Thompson Grussing,1929-2002

Warren Thompson Grussing, the son of DeWitt and Lillian (Thompson) Grussing, was born on February 12, 1929, Jackson, Minnesota, and passed away at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa on Thursday, May 2, 2002 at the age of 73.

Warren attended Venice schools graduating from Venice, California High School in 1946. Warren served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He served in combat as a platoon sergeant of a heavy weapons platoon in the 7th Infantry Division.

On February 15, 1953, Warren was united in marriage to Joan Richmond at the First Presbyterian Church in Armstrong, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Ames, Iowa where Warren attended Iowa State University, he then worked for the Iowa Highway Commission in Ames. Warren and Joan moved back to Armstrong where he was employed at Arts-Way Manufacturing. He most recently worked for Weigh-Tronix, Inc. for over 30 years and retired in 1992.

Warren was a member of the Baptist Church, the Presbyterian Church, the Elks Lodge and the Algona Chapter of the Harley Owners Group.

Warren is survived by his wife, Joan Grussing of Armstrong, Iowa; son, David Richmond Grussing and his wife Sherry and their children Matthew Croy Grussing and Christopher Warren Grussing of Stillwater, Oklahoma; two daughters, Kathryn Ann Grussing and Laurie Jean Grussing both of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and one sister, Helen Brown of Armstrong, Iowa.

Warren and Joan would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in February of 2003.

He has been preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Mary Elizabeth Grussing.
