Mrs. F. E. Gorton

Mrs. F. E. Gorton died Sunday [March 10, 1907] at her home southeast of the city after a short illness, in her seventy-third year.

Her maiden name was Lucy Jane Herrick and she was born in Willoughby, Ohio, March 24, 1834, and married Foster E. Gorton December 30, 1853. In 1867 the couple moved to Linn county, Iowa, where they resided until the spring of 1895 when they came to Emmet county, where they have since lived.

Mr. Gorton is survived by her husband, who is in feeble health, two sons and three daughters. Five children have preceded her to the unknown world.

She had long been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and her religious influence was felt in her home. She was a kind friend and neighbor and leaves many friends. [She is buried in Oak Hill cemetery.]
