Funeral services for Walter C. Frick were held Wednesday morning, January 24, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church in Estherville, Iowa. Pastor Doug Burton officiated the services and Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Homes was in charge of the arrangements. Military Graveside Rites were given by the VFW #3388 & American Legion #91.
Walter Frick, the son of Jacob and Anna (Graettinger) Frick was born on October 17, 1921, in Graettinger, Iowa and departed this life on Saturday, January 20, 2007, at the Rosewood Manor Nursing Home in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 85 years old.
He received his education in Spirit Lake schools, graduating in 1939. Walt served in the United States Army and received the Purple Heart during World War II serving in the Phillipines.
On March 7, 1948, he was united in marriage to Doris Brown in in Fairmont, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple farmed and lived in the Estherville area. Walt retired from farming in 1985. He worked for Burrell Oil Company and later for Green Acres for 40 years.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, life-time member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion and also served on several community boards in Estherville.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Doris; three daughters Susan Schock and her husband, Bill; Diane Swalve and her husband, Lowell all of Estherville; Cindy Frick of Union, Oregon; eight grandchildren, Greg Schock and his wife Suzy of Sheldon, Iowa; Pam Tromblay and her husband, Darren of Ogden, Iowa; Nikki Varcoe and her husband, Brian of Urbana, Illinois; Coleen McDowell and her husband, Scott of Des Moines, Iowa; Kevin Schock and his wife Sarah of Grimes, Iowa; Sarah Schock of Clive, Iowa; Marcy Sander and her husband, Kevin of Estherville; Ryan Swalve and his wife, Kristin of Winterset, Iowa; nine great-grandchildren: Dustin, Elise, Dakota, Ashley, Logan, Morgan, Molly, Izaak, and Abby; two sisters, Ann Jenson and her husband, Jim of Florida and Dorothy Myrick of Spirit Lake, Iowa.
He has been preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Emmett and Russell.
Internment was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville, Iowa.
