Ellef Ellefson, 1869-1940

Ellef Ellefson was born in Aal in Hallingdal, Norway on Dec. 2, 1869 and passed away at the Coleman hospital [in Estherville] on Dec. 14, 1940 at the age of 71 years and 12 days. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Elev Ellefson. His mother's maiden name was Birget Knutson. He was united in marriage to Julia Michelson on July 1, 1902 by Rev. Hagbarth Engh. They had one son, Elmer.

Mr. Ellefson was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Norway and was confirmed in the Estherville Lutheran church by the Rev. Bull, pastor at that time. He came to this country with his parents and one sister, Gunhild, when he was only four months old. The family settled in this community when they came from the old country and always lived around here. The farm where Joe Brinkman now lives was the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ellefson until they moved to Wallingford in 1919 where they have since resided.

Mr. Ellefson was one of the older members of the Wallingford church and was always at church when:there were services. He was even able to attend services the last Sunday before he passed away. He was sick only about a week. He was taken to the Coleman hospital last Friday morning and passed away on Saturday morning at 9:40.

Mr. Ellefson was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Gunhild Sevatson and one grandson, Gordon Ellefson. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and son, Elmer, of Jackson, Minn., and one granddaughter, Ardyce, also one sister, Mrs. Nels Mickelson of Wallingford and 18 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted on Dec. 18, 1940. Rev. Gaarde of Cylinder, Iowa had charge of the services at the house as well as at the church where he was assisted by Rev. L. A. Mathre of Estherville. Rev. T. Hansen of Lakefield, Minn., send a message to the family by telegram as he was unable to be present at the services. Special music was furnished by Alan Hersleff and Norman Larson. Mr. Larson sang two Norwegian solos, one of which was the favorite song of Mr. Ellefson. Interment was made in the Wallingford cemetery. Pall bearers were Gus Gilbert, Lars Egertson, Oscar Peterson, L. B. Nelson, O. O. Anderson and Lewis Osher.
