Arthur J. Tigges

Arthur J. Tigges, 87, of 4889 Asbury Road, Apt. 26, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at Heritage Manor.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church adjacent to Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, 3966 Asbury Road. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road.

Mr. Tigges farmed all his life in the Asbury area, and then near Sherrill, Iowa.

He was born on Aug. 21, 1918, in Durango, Iowa, son of Aegidius and Louisa (Koenig) Tigges.

He married Delores Herbst on April 18, 1939; she died in 1993. He then married Bernetta Decher on May 19, 1995; she died on Sept. 30, 2005.

He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, going to stock car races, watching NASCAR, traveling and going for drives. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are a son, Richard (Charlotte) Tigges, of Sherrill; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Tigges; five grandchildren, Lori Bruflodt, Kristie (Dennis) Fry, Michael (Danelle) Tigges, Ann Tigges and Jessica Tigges; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosie Sweeney, of Strawberry Point, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis Tigges, in 1995; twin daughters in infancy; three brothers, Leo, Sylvester and Joseph; and two sisters, Leona Puls and Magdaline Schmitt.

An Arthur Tigges Memorial Fund has been established.
