Grace Ellen Driscoll, 90, passed to her eternal reward Sunday, November 20, 2011, at Oak Park Place.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Holy Family Church, New Melleray, with her nephew, Msgr. Wayne Ressler as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2011, at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Grace was born in South Garry Owen, Iowa on November 28, 1920, to William and Bernice (Coakley) Shanahan.
Grace married Francis Driscoll on September 15, 1942. She was a homemaker until 1957 when she and Frank became licensed insurance agents and formed and operated Driscoll Insurance Agency. Frank preceded her in death on May 15, 1991.
She is survived by her six children, Charles (Christina) Driscoll, of Clayton, MO, Patrick (Fran) Driscoll, of Davenport, Robert Driscoll, of Denver, CO, David Driscoll (friend, Carolyn Temperly), of Dubuque, Mary Beth (Thomas Isetts) Driscoll, of Milwaukee, WI, and Kevin J. (Teresa) Driscoll, of Des Moines; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters Pauline Lambe, Laverne Noonan, Florence Ehlinger and Clemence Melloy, and a brother, William Shanahan. For many years she was the sole survivor among her siblings and in-laws and therefore has been particularly close to her many nephews and nieces.
Memorials may be made to New Melleray Abbey or Divine Word Seminary.
