Marilyn P. Yenney, of Mt. Carroll, IL, passed away Saturday, August 6th, at Allure Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll. A funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 15, as well as one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Marilyn was born February 25, 1931, daughter of Maynard and Ethel (Katzenberger) Gothard. She was the eldest of three children. Marilyn attended Strawberry School, one year at Woodland, and then high school in Mt. Carroll, graduating with the class of 1949. From the age of 12 she grew up on the William and Mary Law Turkey Farm where her parents raised turkeys and farmed. On this same farm, June 19th, 1949, Marilyn would wed her husband, Mernice (Sonny) Yenney and they would go on to raise three children. The family resided in Savanna, IL, for many years until moving to Mt. Carroll in 1970, where Marilyn and Sonny would build their new home.

Besides being a homemaker, Marilyn worked for The Eaton Corporation in Savanna until her retirement, and later would work seasonally at Swiss Colony. She loved camping, and after nearly two decades of family weekend outings and vacations, would then with her husband, enjoy thirty plus years with the Good Sam Camping Club, along with taking several guided bus tours. For numerous years Marilyn would hold the position of Good Sam Assistant State Director, and in 2022 she was presented with the Woman of the Year Award by the Good Sam Recreational Vehicle Association of Illinois.

Marilyn took great pride in the up keep of her home and yard, taking meticulous, loving care of her flower beds and shrubs. She was a great cook, baker, and candy maker, which made family gatherings extremely memorable for her children and grandchildren alike. Her favorite hobbies also included sewing, crocheting, craft projects, reading, bird watching, and caring for her beloved kitties.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Mernice Yenney; her son, Edwin (Marcia) Yenney; daughter, Cynthia Wojak; daughter, Denise (Jerry) Niles; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Marilyn is proceeded in death by her parents; her grandson, Chrysagon Yenney; her sister, Julia Stewart, and her brother; Merle Gothard.
