Charles H. Witz, 85, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at his home. A private celebration of life will be held at First English Lutheran Church, Platteville. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is assisting the family. Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com
Charles was born on March 7, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Harry and Ruth Witz. He was united in marriage to Linda Carpenter on May 31, 1958, in Platteville. Charles graduated from the Platteville Mining School and worked for many years as an open pit/ mining engineer. His career took him all over the united states working in Florida, Ohio and his final years in Hazard, Kentucky. After retiring he worked in consulting with mines as he wrote and developed many of the programs used today. He was a train and model enthusiast and he enjoyed making train set ups and building car, boat and train models. When time permitted he enjoyed fishing. Charles and Linda recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Charles and Linda enjoyed winters in Florida, and traveling to see their son, Scott, wherever he was stationed overseas or within the US while serving in the United States Army.
Charles is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons, Scott (Grace) Witz and Steven Witz; two grandchildren; David and Gabriella Witz; sister-in-law, Sandra (Jim) Tindell; brother-in-law, Dennis (Diana) Carpenter and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and father and mother-in-law, Alvin and Meta Carpenter.
