MRS. MARY M’QUILLAN
ANSWERS SUMMONS
~
DEATH OCCURS AT FAMILY RESIDENCE
EARLY SATURDAY MORNING
~
The death of Mrs. Mary Anne McQuillan, widow of the Late John McQuillan, occurred at the family residence, 1493 Bluff Street, on Saturday morning at ten minutes past three o’clock, her death resulting from a stroke of paralysis which she sustained Tuesday morning. Her condition was critical ever since, and early this morning she passed peacefully to her eternal reward.

Mrs. McQuillan was a daughter of the late John and Catherine McKinley, pioneer citizens of Dubuque, and was born in Philadelphia on June 9, 1834. She came with her parents to this city in 1846, the family remaining but a short time and returning to the east. They came to Dubuque again in 1855 and this city has since been her home. Her marriage to Mr. McQuillan was celebrated at St. Raphael’s Cathedral on November 10, 1858.

Mrs. McQuillan’s life was in itself a eulogy, and words fail in offering a tribute to her memory. Her home was her world and her devotion to her family marked her as a true Christian mother. In her quiet, unassuming way she aided the needy, her generous heart ever ready to relieve the necessities of the poor. Her life was an exemplification of her Catholic belief, and a host of friends throughout the city morn her loss and cherish the memory of a good and noble woman.

Three daughter and three sons mourn her death, Sister Mary Bernadina, Visitation Convent, city; Miss Catherine, at home; Mrs. G. E. Schmid, Davenport, Ia.,; Charles at home; Aloysius, Los Angeles, Cal.; and Paul; two grandchildren, Bernadine and Genevieve Sullivan; two brothers, John McKinley, of Dubuque, and Charles V., of Chicago, and a sister, Mrs. Philip Rynan, of Denver, Colo. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
