David Allen Eglseder, age 75, of Guttenberg, Iowa, died Thursday, February 24, 2022, at the Guttenberg Care Center. He was born on January 30, 1947 in Guttenberg, the first born child of Howard and Dorothy (Meyer) Eglseder.

David attended the Guttenberg Community Schools. David never met a challenge he didn’t like. When it was made difficult for him to get his driver’s license, he not only acquired it, but he was also one of the safest drivers around. David had many interesting hobbies during his lifetime.

He had a woodworking career that lasted 20 years. He traveled to various craft booths and flea markets in northeast Iowa, along with his mother and father, displaying wooden craft items that they had created together. He contributed unpainted wooden craft items to the St. Mary’s Craft Committee for more than 20 years. These items were then painted and sold at the St. Mary’s Fall Festival. David was a lifelong Cubs fan. He went to several games with his brother, Mark. He was also a devoted Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He shared this passion with Mark, Phil, Frank, and many others in the community.

Anyone that knew David, knew that he was a master jigsaw puzzler. Many happy hours were spent putting puzzles together while sipping iced tea.

David loved to play Euchre. He would go wherever the game was, but eventually, his favorite place to play was at the Eagle’s Club. The club became like a second home to him as he became a member, served a term or two as president, and found acceptance and fellowship there for many years.

He continued playing Euchre and doing jigsaw puzzles while living at the Guttenberg Care Center. David was loved and treasured within the Guttenberg community. He was always quick to smile and help, didn’t judge people, and thought the best of those he met.

He will forever be loved and cherished by his three sisters, Diane (Steve) Rowland of Guttenberg, Mary Eglseder of Fort Myers, Florida and Patty (Philip) Pokorny of Kansas City, Missouri; one niece and five nephews, Erin Pokorny, Jared (Teresa) Rowland, Shannon Rowland, Shawn (Katie) Eglseder, Jordan (Emily) Pokorny and Nathan Pokorny; one sister-in-law, Diane Carr, and many relatives and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Dorothy Eglseder and his brother, Mark.
