Blood Poisoning Cause of Death

Sister Mary Lucy aged ninety-four years, and for the past fifty-nine years a member of the Order of Charity, is dead at Mt Carmel Mother House as a result of blood poisoning. Several weeks ago, Sister Lucy tripped and fell in the convent, striking her shoulder against a radiator, suffering bruises and had been confined to her bed. Her death resulted on Sunday morning at ten o'clock, after a constant service of fifty-nine years in the order.

Sister Mary Lucy, who was in the world Miss Ann McDonnell, was born in Kilkenny, Ireland, ninety-four years ago. Sixty years ago she came to America and shortly afterwards became a member of the Charity Order. During her long life she was stationed at various missions, at Holden, Mo., Des Moines, Davenport and Chicago. She was one of the best beloved members of the order and was known far and wide throughout the United States where she had been on many missions and where many came to know her. Absolutely wrapt in her calling, the life of the dead sister was lived towards the highest ideals of her vocation, but withal the spiritual beauty of her life, it but tended to give her a deeper appreciation and sympathy for humanity and many a troubled heart found sweet source of peace and rest in confiding in the good sister of Charity, whose life has been terminated after so many years of beauty and of usefulness.
Sister Mary Lucy is survived by her niece, Sister Purification of the Order of Charity at Elgin, and by her grand-niece and grand-nephew, Miss Johanna and Frank McLaughlin and Clarence and Charles McDonnell of this city.

The burial of the dead religious took place on Monday afternoon at three o'clock at Mt Carmel.
