Mary Louise Frey, age 59, of Scales Mound, IL passed away on April 6, 2022. Funeral service will be 7 PM, Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena where friends may gather after 5 pm until the time of service. Burial will be at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. Mary Louise (Speder) Frey was born in Oak Park, IL on July 1, 1962, to Andrew and Ruth-Marie Speder of Villa Park. She graduated in 1980 from Willowbrook High School, Villa Park. Mary had a gift for and enjoyed growing plants and flowers, so after high school, she attended and graduated from DuPage Horticultural School in West Chicago. While studying there Mary interned at several area commercial greenhouses. Also, while at college she met her future husband, Thomas Frey. She and Tom were married on September 25, 1988, in St. Charles, IL, and together started their own business, Circle D Greenhouses, Hampshire, IL. In addition to her love of plants and flowers, Mary enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for her family. She was a lover of animals, especially dogs. Her beloved dog Zero was her most recent loyal companion and very special to her. Mary is survived by her former husband, Thomas Frey of Galena; son, Aaron Frey of Scales Mound and his children Abigail, Lily, and James; daughter Christine (Scott) Honerbaum of Elizabeth and their children Orion and Everly; her siblings Nancy (John) Svoboda of Omaha, NE, Andrew (Annie) Speder of Gastonia, NC, and William (Lauren) Speder of Glen Ellyn, IL, many friends, nephews, a niece, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be directed to Dubuque Regional Humane Society, 4242 Chavenelle Road, Dubuque IA 52002 in loving memory of Mary.
