Kevin G. Martin, age 61, of Prairie du Chien, WI passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI. He was born October 17, 1960, in Prairie Du Chien, WI, the fifth child of William and Joanne Martin. He married Kim (Mergen) Martin on July 3rd, 1982.
Kevin graduated from West Grant High School and Southwest Tech with a degree in agriculture mechanics. He was a farmer all of his life and loved working the land. He took over the family farm in 1991. Kevin fought a 25 year battle with muscular dystrophy with grace and dignity and even when life got hard, he never lost his sense of humor, his good spirit and his love of life.
Kevin is survived by his wife Kim of Prairie du Chien, WI, son Scott (Rikki) Martin of Albany, WI, son Shawn (Katie) Martin of Bagley, WI, son Nicholas Martin of Monroe, WI, daughter Kelsey (Adam) Hamann of Prairie du Chien, WI; Granddaughters Hadley and Adaline; mother Joanne Martin of Prairie Du Chien, WI; Siblings, four brothers, Daniel (Inez) Martin of Fennimore, WI, Charles (Cathy) Martin of Bloomington, WI, and Phillip (Kathy) Martin, Prairie du Chien, WI; and Bill Martin (Scott) of Elburn, IL; brother-in-law, Joe Hundt of Bangor, WI; seven sisters, Geralyn (Craig) Conley of Fennimore, WI, Jolene (Dean) Cooper of Lodi, WI, Martha (Bryan) Cody of Eastman, WI, Denise (Mick) Marshall of Issaquah, WA, Shirley (Larry) Gates and Julie (Todd) Fischer, both of Bagley, WI and Sarah (Gerrick) Childs of Cottage Grove, WI; mother-in-law, Ruth Mergen of Bloomington, WI; brothers-in-law, Bruce (Shirley) Mergen of Birmingham, AL, Alan (Dawn) Mergen of Bloomington, WI; sisters-in-law, Amy (Craig) Montgomery of Sun Prairie, WI, and Ruth Mergen of Boomer, NC; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father, William Martin, sister, Angie Hundt, father-in-law Thomas Mergen, and brother-in-law Brent Mergen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday February 21, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington, WI with burial of cremated remains to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00-5:00 P.M. on Sunday afternoon February 20, 2022, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. on Monday morning. The Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore is assisting the family.
