Duane P. Schroeder, 86, of Dyersville, and formerly of Strawberry Point, Iowa, died Monday morning, September 6, 2021, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester, Iowa.
Memorial Service: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington, Iowa. Military honors will be presented at the funeral home by the Dean-Harkin American Legion Post #219 of Arlington.
Visitation: 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday, September 10, 2021, and for one hour before the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Inurnment: At a later date at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed in his name to the American Heart Association, National Kidney Foundation, Eastern Iowa Honor Flight or the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Neurology Department.

Duane Paul Schroeder was born July 30, 1935, in Westgate, Iowa, the son of William A. and Luella Ann (Decker) Schroeder. In 1953, he graduated from Randalia High School. Duane proudly served in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict. On May 4, 1958, he was united in marriage to Janet Louisa Behrend at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington. Over the years, Duane was employed at Spahn & Rose Lumber Company, Cashway Eswood Homes and Cascade Lumber. He was a member of the Dean-Harkin American Legion Post #219 of Arlington, Farm Bureau, Emanual Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point and the Rodas Chevrolet Bowling Team. Duane enjoyed woodworking, hunting, golfing, collecting coins, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, traveling and meeting people. He was an avid Mets baseball fan and loved following his grandchildren’s sports and activities.
Duane is survived by his wife: Janet Schroeder of Dyersville; daughter: Valarie (Jon) Betz of Dewitt; son: Brent Schroeder of Dyersville; grandchildren: Zachary (Whitney) Betz, Megan (Curry) Kuehl, Miah (Tanner) Smith, Kylee (Jordan) Langel, Kirsten Schroeder (Devin Ament) and Dylan Schroeder; great grandchildren: Kamryn and Kaizer Kuehl and Elijah McLeish; siblings: Burnadene (Nyle) Vargason of Hazleton, Veniece (Harold) Vandersee of Oelwein and Mardene (Robert) Bahe of Oelwein; sisters-in-law: Debra Schroeder of Oelwein and Barbara (James) Seidel of Strawberry Point; brothers-in-law: William Behrend (Chris Barker) of Waukon and John Behrend of Arlington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Rollyn Schroeder; parents-in-law: Herbert and Rita Behrend; nephew: Alan Bahe; and niece: Marsha Behrend.
