Richard K. Blume, 77 of 6838 Route 52 South, passed away Sunday February 9th, 2014 at Unity Point Health- Finley Hospital after a sudden illness.

Per his wishes there will be no public visitation or services. Online condolences can be made at www.leonardfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Heart Association.

Richard Kenneth Blume was born on April 16th, 1936 to C. Kenneth and Marlys (Inglett) Blume in Caledonia, MN.

On December 23rd, 1956 he married Bonnie Josephine (White) Blume.

He served 4 years in the United States Air Force after which he started at John Deere Dubuque Works where he retired after 30 years.

Richard enjoyed camping, gardening, helping his son with the family business (especially visiting with their customers), animated stuff animals, and spending time with his family.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Bonnie, five children; Mark (Kim) Blume, and their child Rickey, of Nebraska, Darcey (Tom) Fairfield, of Connecticut, Scott (Karoly) Blume, and their children, Ashley (Garrett) Stephens, and Austin Blume, of Dubuque, Robert Blume, and his child, Amanda Blume, of Bellevue, and Todd, and his children, Sheena, Shelley, Ryan, and Grace Blume, of Dubuque; and 4 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; C. Kenneth and Marlys Blume.

Richards’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Karin Loukenin (his “Guardian Angel”) and Dr. Hillard Salas for their excellent care over the years, as well as the excellent staff and caregivers of both Unity Point Health-Finley Hospital and Mercy Medical Center.
