1 August 1963 - The Anamosa Eureka

DYERSVILLE--Solemn requiem high mass was sung and a military funeral was given to Philip R. Deutmeyer, 22, Thursday morning at Petersburg.

Deutmeyer was killed Monday morning when he was crushed by the bucket of an endloader he was operating at the Weber Stone Co. quarry in Stone City.

Mass was sung at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church, Petersburg, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Nester B. Goedken, Chester, an uncle of the deceased, was officiating clergyman. Parish rosary was recited at the McBride Funeral home, Dyersville.

Pallbearers were Elmer Schwers, Lawrence Schwers, Charles Schwers, Francis Takes, Tom McAleer and Tom Deutmeyer.

Philip R. Deutmeyer was born Sept. 28, 1940, to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Deutmeyer, Lamont. He attended school in Dyersville and entered the Navy until earlier this year when he began working at the Weber Stone Co. Since April he lived during the week in Anamosa and returned to Dyersville on the week ends.

Immediate survivors, in addition to his parents, are four sisters, Mrs. Gerald (Marilyn) Prier, Dyersville, Mrs. Dick (Joyce) Klosterman, Edgewood, and Iva and Carol at home; four brothers Frank, Anamosa, Fred stationed with the Air Force in Japan, and Kenny and Leon at home.

Other survivors include maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Goedken, Petersburg, and a paternal grandmother, Mrs. William Deutmeyer, Dyersville.
