His obituary in the July 29, 1907 Dubuque Telegraph Herald
Richard Clement Welsh, of 1840 Washington street, died this morning, at 3 o'clock. His death was caused by Bright's disease. For nine weeks he has been suffering from this dread disease. Three of those weeks he spent at Mercy hospital in the hope that the inroads of the disease might be stopped, but it was all of no avail, for he died at his home on Washington street Monday morning.
The deceased has lived here all his life. He was born on May 4th, 1854, and was educated here. Was a typesetter in these offices for several years and then took a government position as mail carrier. For ten years he acted in this capacity.
He was a constant member of St. Patrick's church and died with all the consolation given a Christian at his death bed. He was a devoted father and an exemplary husband. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and three sons, Charles, Vincent and Raymond.
The funeral will be held at nine o'clock Wednesday morning from St. Patrick's church to Mount Olivet cemetery. Father Dowling will officiate at the mass and grave.
