Nicholas L Wolfe, 88, of Cascade, Iowa, passed away, Friday, November 13, 2020 at his home in Cascade, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Nick may call from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Social distancing will be followed, as recommended by federal and state guidelines. Face masks are required to attend the visitation. The Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade is in charge of arrangement and anyone interested in sending memorials may send them to Reiff Funeral Home, Attention: Nick Wolfe family at P.O. Box #430, Cascade, Iowa, 52033.

A Mass of Christian burial for Nick will be offered at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa, by Fr. Joseph Wolfe, M.F.V.A. and Rev. Douglas Loecke. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa with full military honors afforded by the Cascade American Legion Post #528.

He was born October 12, 1932 in Worthington, Iowa, son of Nicholas and Apollonia (Sauser) Wolfe Sr. He received his education in the Worthington area country schools and is a 1950 graduate of St. Paul’s Catholic School in Worthington. On June 22, 1957 he was united in marriage to Rose Leyendecker at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Worthington, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Worthington/Cascade area from 1959 to 1982, at which time they moved to Cascade. He then was a custodian at Aquin Elementary until 1994.

He was an Army veteran having served from 1953 to 1955 and was a member of the Cascade American Legion Post #528. Nick was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade, Iowa, was a devoted Catholic and daily communicant, and did many maintenance tasks for the parish. He enjoyed going fishing and doing gardening and was well known for his great sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Wolfe of Cascade, IA; two children, Fr. Joseph M. Wolfe, M.F.V.A. of Irondale, AL and Diane (Mark) Welter of Sand Springs, IA; three grandchildren, Dan (Lauren) Welter, Tom (Andrea) Welter and Craig (Mandi) Welter; five great grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Pat) Wolfe of Dubuque, IA; Two brothers-in-law, Steve (Christa) Leyendecker of Mt. Prospect, IL and Rick (Karla Cigrand) Leyendecker of Iowa City, IA; six sisters-in-law, Marge Gassmann of Asbury, IA, Jean (Richard) Polfer of Peosta, IA and Linda (David) Burger both of Worthington, Iowa; Judy Lammers of Dyersville, IA, Mary Leyendecker of Hazel Park, MI and Kathy (Patrick) Hayes of Milwaukie, OR.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Edgar “Ted” (Donna) Wolfe, Richard Wolfe, Ernest Wolfe, and Harold Wolfe; three sisters, Evelyn (Jim) Graff, Kathleen “Kay” (Ambrose) Hess and Violet (Donald) Leytem; his father and mother-in-law, Silverius and Irene Leyendecker and his stepfather-in-law, Francis Till.

Two brothers-in-law, LeRoy Gassmann and Jerome “Jerry” Lammers; and a nephew Jeffrey Lammers.
