John Carl Jaeger (1935-2020)

John Carl “Johnny” Jaeger, 84, of Toddville, Iowa, formerly of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at the Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha. He was born on October 4, 1935, in Dyersville, the son of Sylverius and Angela (Kramer) Jaeger. John was educated in Dyersville. From 1956 to 1958 he served honorably in the United States Army.

On June 6, 1959, John was united in marriage to Ruthann Werner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earlville. Four children were blessed to this union. John was a farmer and also worked as a livestock manager for Manchester Livestock Auction for 29 years, retiring in 2014. John and Ruthann moved to Toddville to be closer to family in 2019.

John was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ruthann Jaeger of Toddville; his four children, Tania (Scott) Roland of Paris, Texas, Todd (Amy Clark) Jaeger of Mt. Home, Arkansas, Nichole (Vince) Krause of Toddville, and Cory Jaeger of Des Moines; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; special daughter, Julie (Kevin) Ferden of Newnan, Georgia; 4 siblings, Leo (Diane) Jaeger of Kenton, Ohio, LeRoy Jaeger of Earlville, Marilyn Werner of Dyersville, and Loras (Mikki) Jaeger of Davenport; sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Betty (Vincent) Herman, Rosemary (David) Salow, and Joe (Carmen) Werner all of Earlville, Theresa Witter of Sherrill, and Monte Werner of Belvidere, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Colletta (Pottebaum) Jaeger; 7 unborn grandchildren; 8 siblings, Urban (Irene) Jaeger, Joan (George) Helle, Della Rose Downey, Eileen (John) Appel, William (Mary Ann) Jaeger, Norma (Lavern) Petsche, and Jeanne Ann and Eldon Jaeger both in infancy; and in-laws, Anita Jaeger, Diane Jaeger, Leon Werner, Milt Witter, and Pat Werner.

Because of COVID-19 concerns, masks are strongly recommended at both the funeral home and church.
