Mrs. Mary Snowden, the widow of the later Robert Snowden, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Margaret Cowan, at Cascade, last Tuesday night at the advanced age of 90 years. Mrs. Snowden was one of the earliest settlers of Jones County. She came into Richland Township 62 years ago, and during all of that time lived within a few miles of the original settlement. Mrs. Snowden’s maiden name was Mary Boyd. She was born in the County Monaghan, Ireland, August 15, 1808, and came to Philadelphia 72 years ago. In 1833 she went to Dubuque, where she was married to Robert Snowden, and in 1836 they settled in Farm Creek neighborhood of Richland Township. Mr. Snowden died in 1890 and since the Mrs. Snowden has been tenderly cared for in the home of her sister, Mrs. Margaret Cowan. The funeral services were conducted today at the Baptist Church in Cascade.
