Death of Mrs. Mary Kurt

The death of Mrs. Mary Ann Kurt, an old and respected citizen, occurred at the family homestead in Cascade Township last Saturday night at 12 o’clock. She was stricken with paralysis and did not long survive the shock expiring before medical aid could be summoned.

Mrs. Kurt’s maiden name was Mary Ann Leytem, and she had been a resident of Cascade Township for 48 years. She was born in Luxemburg, June 4th, 1832, and came to this country with her parents in 1847. In 1849 she was married to Peter Kurt, who died in 1881.

She is survived by seven children: Nicholas, of Randolph, Neb.; Mrs. Matt Sadler, of Cascade; Mrs. Peter Sauser, Of Octavia, Neb.; Mrs. Nick Steichen, of Oberlin, Kansas; and Michael and Misses Katie and Lizzie, who reside on the homestead. She was also a cousin of Mayor N. J. Leytem, of Cascade.

The funeral took place on Wednesday morning from St. Mary’s Church, the Rev. F. X. Feuerstein officiating.
