Richard E. “Dick” Kohl Sr., age 84, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 7:15 a.m., on Sunday, March 29, 2020, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Because of the unprecedented conditions in our country right now due to the COVID-19 virus, private family services will be held at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. The family will thankfully receive your support through phone calls, greeting cards and online condolences left at www.behrfuneralhome.com. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens.

Dick was born on March 21, 1936, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Dallas and Olive (Baldwin) Kohl.

Dick attended school at Prescott Elementary, Jefferson Middle School and then Dubuque Senior High School. He was united in marriage to Judy Ann Nelson in 1964, in Dubuque. Judy preceded him in death on March 15, 2007, after 43 years of marriage and 7 children together. He was employed with Independent Auto Wrecking for 20 years, and after that he went to work at American Trust and Savings Bank in the maintenance department. In his free time, Dick enjoyed classic cars and could often be found in the garage tinkering on his latest project, or heading out to a car show. He also enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors whether it be going for a nice long walk or heading to his favorite fishing hole. Dick was a regular at the library and was known to occasionally try his luck at the local casino. Above all, Dick enjoyed spending time with his family and visiting with friends. We are deeply saddened at losing Dick in our daily lives, but take some comfort in knowing that he is now resting peacefully, free of the health issues he has battled so bravely these past months.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judy Ann Kohl; 2 sons, Robert Charles “Chuck” Kohl and Larry Dean “Kimberly Marie” Kohl; and his siblings, Helen, Joyce, Dee, Bob and Kay.

Dick’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Wendt Regional Cancer, and Hospice of Dubuque, for all of their kind, compassionate and professional care of Dick.
