John Coyle, another old settlor of Washington Township, Jones County, died suddenly last Monday afternoon, after an illness of several hours duration. Mr. Coyle apparently in his usual health in the morning, attended to some of the chores about the premises. However, later in the day, he was suddenly seized with a sickness that developed into hemorrhage of the stomach, and he died about 3:00 o’clock p.m.

Mr. Coyle was born in Ireland about 65 years ago. He came to the United States in 1846, and lived in Boston five years. In 1851 he removed to Washington Township and engaged in farming. He was married Nov. 17, 1860 to Miss Ellen Pender, of Jones County, who survives him with four children, Thomas, Richard, Eva and Mary.

Mr. Coyle was a kind hearted man and held in high esteem by all his neighbors and acquaintances. His death being sudden and unlooked for was a surprise to the community, and in their sore bereavement the family of deceased has the sincere sympathy of all in the deprivation which they have sustained in the loss of the husband and father. Mr. Coyle leaves a brother, Patrick Coyle, who resided t Ulysses, Nebraska.

The funeral services were held in St. Peter’s Church Wednesday morning and the remains were brought to Cascade for burial. A large concourse of people from the surrounding country and this city attended.

Revs. Father Lonergan, of Fillmore; McCormack, of Monticello; Kelly, of Garry Owen; and Convery, pastor of St. Peter’s officiated in the service for the dead.
