In the death of Dr. George M. Staples at Dubuque last Saturday morning, the city and county in general loses a grand citizen. The Herald in an editorial says of him: “The life of Dr. Staples shows what has been shown so many times, the capacities for men under American institutions. Forty years ago he came to Dubuque poor and friendless. During the years since, by his own efforts, by industry, devotion to his work, honesty and character, he climbed steadily upward, until at the time of his death he stood, if not at the head of his profession in the state, at least in the very front rank, nd the possessor of much more than competence earned entirely by him.”
