Joseph Glew (1794-1867) married Sarah Wright (1796-1878) in Derbyshire, England. They came to America in 1819 living for a time in Pennsylvania before coming to Dubuque County in 1838. The Glew’s were among our first pioneer families of this county settling on a farm near Cottage Hill. They had nine children. Four remained living in this area.
Alexander Glew (1823-1895) was born in Center Township in Pennsylvania. He married Amanda Waltham (1827-1909) in Dubuque on April 20, 1846. They had a family of seven children.
Joseph Martin Glew (1848-1900) married H. Arthusa Wilson (1844-1900) they farmed north of Farley in Section one of Dodge Township. This land is now owned by Wilfred Steffensmeier.
Alta Jane Glew married Frank Benton (1867-1935).
Elizabeth Glew (1830-1908) was born in Pennsylvania. She married John Cook on January 29, 1852. John was a pastor in the Methodist-Episcopal Church. They had five sons and two daughters. They had lived in Cottage Hill and later in Epworth.
