WELL KNOWN FARLEY RESIDENT DEAD --
PATRICK MASTERSON EXPIRED AT HIS HOME TUESDAY MORNING --WAS EIGHTY-FOUR YEARS OLD --
Resident of Dubuque County Since 1851, Coming to Farley From New Orleans --
Farley, Ia., Feb. 21 -- Special: After an illness of four months death came as a relief to Mr. Patrick Masterson at his home at North Farley Tuesday morning at 7:30 o'clock.
Deceased was born in County Cab.., Ireland, eighty-four years ago and when a young man came to this country landing at New Orleans, where he remained for several years. In 1851 he came north and settled in Dubuque county. In May of the same year he was united in marriage to Miss Rose Dugan at Dubuque. With the exception of three or four years spent in Butte, Mont., he made his home in Dubuque county up to the time of his death. Mr. Masterson engaged in farming and during his early life experienced all a pioneer's __issitudes (sp?) and troubles. He made the trip to Montana, together with three other young men, with teams of oxen and enough provisions to last throughout the trip.
He was held in high esteem by all who knew him and his passing has caused sincere regret. Deceased is survived by his wife, two sons, Joseph and Leo, of Chicago, and two daughters, Mrs. J. Cooney of Dubuque and Miss Margaret of Chicago.
The funeral will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic church Thursday morning at 9 o'clock.
